Evaluate your existing policy
Now that you have educated yourself on the different types of insurance, and determined your unique needs, it is time to evaluate any existing policies that you have. Remember that in the first step you located your policies and hopefully put them all together in one place where you and at least one other person can find them. In this step, you will examine the renter's insurance policy to ensure that you have the specific types and amounts of coverage that you determined you need during the last step.
Get your policy out and read through it to make sure that you understand it. If you don't, you might need to review the education step again. Once you understand the specific provisions of the policy, compare them to your unique needs. Note the changes that you want or need to make for the next step. Make detailed notes to remind you of precisely what you want and why you want the changes.
